Timber Drying And Restoration. How Is It Done?
Timber floors can be difficult to handle when drying simply because the timber floor can bow and cup when flooded. In most instances placing an airmover on the floor is not enough to dry it out after a flood. Therefore it may be necessary to have a look at using the Injectidry drying system.
Basically the way the injectidry works is vacuum plates are suctioned on the floor to take out any excess moisture. Usually it will take a duration of 2 to 3 days to completely dry out the floor. A dehumidifier is also placed in the centre of the room to take the moisture that has been pushed into the air by the injectidry.
Many wood floors these days are actually floating timber floors installed on concrete. The Injectidry system may only work in these situations some of the time. You need to analyse the composition of the timber and whether water is trapped underneath the floor and the concrete. This is because in many cases it is impossible to remove the moisture with the Injectidry.
It is important to note this system is usually used in expensive timber floor areas that are expensive to replace. It depends on which restoration company is contracted but usually it will cost around $300 to hire per day which is usually more economical than replacement. Having said this, the timber floors may need to be resealed and re-sanded. Therefore it is important to conduct a cost benefit analysis to see whether it is worth your while to dry it out.
Having said this, in some cases the floor will dry naturally but it is important to ensure you use the services of a qualified water damage restoration professional to inspect the damage. We only recommend using the injectidry system when it is efficient to do so. Only a trusted flood damage company can give this advice.
