Market Your Business Using Social Media
Most people are aware that social media is powerful. If you promote your business with social media in the right way your message can become viral. That means your email newsletter can be forwarded, your tweets are re-tweeted, and people you don’t know can “like” your Facebook page. Your followers, friends, and fans can become a virtual army, helping you get the word out about your business to people you don’t know.
Social media can be overwhelming. If you are willing to spend one hour a day taking advantage of social media you will be way ahead of the game. The trick is to divide your marketing time up into four groups: research, content creation, sharing, and connecting.
The first thing you need to do is research. In order to create a social media campaign you must begin by getting up to speed on what is currently happening in the market you are targeting. Google key words related to your industry. This will turn up industry websites, blogs, Twitter feed and online videos. The goal is to find the most relevant information on your industry.
Once you have information you have to create content. For a social media campaign to have some influence it has to generate conversations about your business, products or promotions. To generate interest you have to have valuable content. Valuable content is more then tidbits of useful information; it is something that adds value to the audience and online conversation. Your content can take any form. It could be a blog, a YouTube video, article, etc.
Once you have your content you have to share it. When it comes to marketing using social media there is two types of content to share. First share the really good content created by someone else that you find doing your research and then share your content. When it comes to sharing the content you create remember the 80-20 rule, that is spend 80% of your time on social media interacting and connecting with people and 20% self promoting. If you forget this rule you are very likely lose your audience.
It is important that you remember to take time and connect with people. The purpose of your research, content creation and sharing is to actually connect with people that you might be able to do business with but that you would not otherwise normally meet. You are gathering friends and followers with the hope of marketing to them overtime. This is a long term strategy so do not come on to strong.
