All it takes is the right forklift attachment and there is virtually nothing your forklift cannot handle in the warehouse or factory. In fact, many companies purchase a forklift to fit their forklift attachment rather than the other way around.
There is a common misconception that the primary reason for buying a forklift is for moving pallets in the warehouse. Often, even forklift drivers are unaware of the many other uses they can be put to, simply because the right attachment is not available for them to use.
Not having the right attachment can be far more costly than buying the one you need. Take for instance the simple and inexpensive broom attachment. It takes perhaps as long as a minute to attach it to the forks, but at a full 48 wide, it can cover a great area quickly and efficiently in far less time than a manual broom can. Over time, it pays for itself many times over in labor costs.
For slightly more money, you can add a magnetized attachment that will thoroughly remove any nails, screws, metal filings or other small metal pieces that brooms so often miss. Nails in particular are a danger, because they tend to roll beneath a broom, but stand up straight when trod on or rolled over by a tire.
Most warehouses are designed around the forklift, but in many factories the forklift, while necessary for lifting pallets and other flat, heavy items, is only used sporadically. They spend hours if not days or weeks standing idle or, worse, being put to use dangerously because they do not have the right attachment for the job. If the factory had a forklift boom, the forklift could be put to better use.
One of the simplest and cheapest of these is the telescoping forklift boom. This is one forklift attachment there is no reason to go without. It simply slides on to the fork and can be telescoped to the required length. Chains, ropes or whatever is most appropriate can be secured around the object to be lifted and then onto the boom hook.
The forklift boom described in the previous paragraph is only one example. Aside from that, there are many others that can be used that have even greater capabilities. Some of the larger ones become as useful as purpose-built cranes and often a forklift is purchased just for use with that attachment while other forklifts perform other factory jobs.
