Magnetic Particle Inspection
Process
A magnetic yoke is applied to the object being testing. The yoke is in a "U" shape so there are two contact points, creating a magnetic field between the two thongs that are in contact with the object.With the yoke still attached to the object a dry powder is applied to the area between the yoke's thongs.Cracks disturb the magnetic field causing an irregular pattern in the flux field that is easily identified by a trained technician.

Magnetic Particle Inspection is used to inspect items such as;Pressure vessels,Weld fabricated components,Cast items,Forged shafts, and Barstocks.
Material Types
Magnetic Particle Inspection can be performed on any ferro-magnetic material.

Magnetic Particle Inspection is beneficial in circumstances where you want to detect cracks and defects open to the surface and within 1/4" of the surface without causing a disturbance or creating a mess.
